Engineering and Robotics Class Descriptions
The following class descriptions give an overall view of the class and are not meant to be a comprehensive listing. Also, due to classes still being developed, curriculum ideas and topics maybe subject to change.
Elementary Engineering I - Simple Machines (14 weeks, 1 hr each)
- Target age 8 years and up
- Structures & forces, levers, wheels & axles, gears
- After school 14 sessions of 1 hour each
- Summer Camp 3 hours a day for 5 days (M-F)
Elementary Engineering II - Compound Machines (12 weeks, 1 hr each)
- Target age 8 years and up
- Pulleys, steering systems, differentials, transmissions, engine layouts, etc.
- After school 12 sessions of 1 hour each
- Summer Camp 3 hours a day for 5 days (M-F)
Elementary Robotics I - Introduction to Robotics (10 weeks, 1.5 hours each)
- Target age 9 years and up and requires laptop
- Programming robots, building to achieve objectives, mobile and non-mobile platforms
- After school 8 sessions of 1 and a half hours each
- Summer Camp 3 hours a day for 5 days (M-F)
Above Classes are Core Classes. There will be classes other than the core but all students who want to be involved with LEGO Robotics will take the core classes. The others are optional and subject to the interest of the students.
Robot Soccer using NXT
- Target age 10 years and up
- Students will build robots to play soccer and compete in a competition at the end.
- Heavy emphasis on programming and advanced building.
- Summer Camp only 7 hours a day for 5 days (M-F)
Elementary Engineering III - Pneumatics Projects (8 weeks, TBA)
- Target age 8 years and up
- Pneumatic projects and elements
Robotics Competition I - Robotic Competition I (Summer camp only)
- Target age 9 years and up
- Covers Robolab 2.9 or NXT-G programming, more complex robots, grabber arms, etc.
- Summer Camp 7 hours a day for 5 days (M-F) , longer hour for higher fees.
